It’s the Evil in the Heart Not the Gun In the Hand

It was the evil in the heart of the shooter not the guns in his hand that is to blame for the tragic shooting in Oregon. I realize this is a statement of the obvious but this fact is seldom mentioned in the public discussion.

Evil is evil and sin is sin. Sin left unchecked leads to evil and eventually physical and spiritual death. God defines sin for us in the Bible so we’ll know what to avoid and to help us live better. He sent Jesus because he knew our sin nature was a problem. There is an ultimate right and an ultimate wrong and while this is clear to most folks it usually remains unspoken publicly. It is not PC to make value judgments.

Developing values and character and living beyond ones hedonism – the pursuit of pleasure and self-indulgence – is critical if life is to mean something. Today many are completely consumed with themselves and live only to squeeze every ounce of pleasure out of life. For many this has become an idol – their god.

Here is a news flash – when our true God is forgotten there is no meaning and no purpose in life. “It is all meaningless – like chasing the wind” said King Solomon about 3,000 years ago (Ecclesiastes 1:14). He also said “there is nothing new under the sun.”

“The conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments,  for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.” (12:13-14)

I am a witness, Jesus has changed my heart and given me reason to live. Throughout time he has changed many hard core cases from despair to joy. He specializes in taking us from futility to hope. Peace with God erases hate for people. God is love and when we belong to Him we want what He wants – whatever is just, honest, pure and virtuous.

It is a hard truth that the devil and his workers are real – they focus on evil. When someone denies God they become an open vessel for the devil’s work.Turn back to God people, I plead with you get to know Jesus before it is too late.

Jesus said we are either for Him or against him. I’m for Him, how about you?
