Hope for Marriage?

Once marriage as an institution becomes something other than a union between one man and one woman any argument for all other forms of marriage-like unions becomes hollow. What is the source of our national conscience? The USA was established as a Christian nation, “in God we trust” is still on every dollar, and that is the God of the Bible.

With the marriage decision we depart from the Bible as a moral guide and we open the door to a dark world. Long held moral objections to many practices such as polygamy, the union of multiple partners, is surly set to be challenged next. Now that we have legal same sex unions what stops multiple-partner like unions? Marriage-like partnerships will likely take any form imaginable by a perverted mind.

OOPS, I used “perverted mind” and that took a value judgment. Let me define it. The basis for my core values is the Bible. More specifically the teachings of Jesus. One of His core instructions is love God and love people without limits. My objecting to the ruling on marriage does not free me from showing the love of Jesus to everyone.

But, Jesus was never reluctant to call out sin. When He met someone living a morally sinful life He told them your sins are forgiven, sin no more. It is a sad time for marriage and the future of our nation. I know our only eternal hope for an abundant life now and after we take our last breath is in knowing Jesus. I’m a Christian and on that rock I stand and I always have hope.

Jesus gives us hope even when the laws of the world go counter to God’s. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” said Jesus (John 16:33).
