It’s the Evil in the Heart Not the Gun In the Hand

It was the evil in the heart of the shooter not the guns in his hand that is to blame for the tragic shooting in Oregon. I realize this is a statement of the obvious but this fact is seldom mentioned in the public discussion.

Evil is evil and sin is sin. Sin left unchecked leads to evil and eventually physical and spiritual death. God defines sin for us in the Bible so we’ll know what to avoid and to help us live better. He sent Jesus because he knew our sin nature was a problem...

7 Positive Things Christians Bring the World

It seems that we have entered a time when Christians in the USA are under attack. Many in America have forgotten where the countless positive aspects of our national character originated. Here is a reminder of seven.

  1. Jesus is the perfect example of how to live life with meaning and purpose. Even his greatest enemies admit Jesus lived an admirable life that changed history. His life story has a message for everyone.
  2. Love of God and love of people are a cornerstone for true Christian followers...

The Armor’s Pulls Toward Spiritual Maturity

I had an interesting thought after my morning prayer time about another way to look at the armor of God. It is one of my favorite verses and I use it to remind myself of what is important. Paul urges us to suit up in the Spiritual battle gear so that we might be able to stand against “the schemes of the devil.” It is found in Ephesians 6:10-20.

The six pieces in my words are:

  1. Belt of Truth
  2. Breastplate of righteousness
  3. Shoes of the ”readiness of the gospel of peace”
  4. Shield of faith
  5. Helmet of sa...

Highway of Holiness

way2 Isa35The Lord put Holiness on my mind. It started Sunday morning, I even mentioned it in our small Covenant Life church service in Ennis. Last evening I had a restless night, two simple words would not go away: Holiness – Way. I was up earlier and found Holy and Holiness was listed 105 times in my Bible’s concordance. But once I saw Isaiah 35:8-9 I knew it was where the Holy spirit wanted me.

A highway shall be there, a roadway, and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness...

Think on These Things

Daily we fill our minds with the world’s media, facebook, news stories, TV shows, radio and on and on. Seldom is the media positive or nurturing or hopeful. What are we to do?

Try this; turn ALL of it off and open the Bible…enough said.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these t...

What Happens When the Lines Are Gone?

Friday June 26 brought us the court decision destroying the Biblical meaning for marriage in the USA and signaling a complete departure from Christian principles. On Monday I came into the office and found the parking lot had been repaved and the lines that show us how to park in an orderly way had been removed. I guess I am free to park how I see fit...

Hope for Marriage?

Once marriage as an institution becomes something other than a union between one man and one woman any argument for all other forms of marriage-like unions becomes hollow. What is the source of our national conscience? The USA was established as a Christian nation, “in God we trust” is still on every dollar, and that is the God of the Bible.

With the marriage decision we depart from the Bible as a moral guide and we open the door to a dark world...

Texas Refugees Fleeing Death

But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:16 (ESV)

What would you do to save your child’s life? The growing mass of lone children and even young families in the Texas Rio Grande Valley indicates how desperate the situation is in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. US media seems to consider these refugees a political issue or an inconvenient distraction. These are real and hurting people.

Meriam’s Faith in Jesus Not Negotiable

So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 10:32-33 ESV)

When six months pregnant Meriam, age 27, answered the door in February 2014 she found stern faced Sudanese government officials who ordered her to grab her small child and come with them. She and her two-year-old son were thrown into a tiny jail cell.

Her crime was her faith, she is a...

What Good Are Christians?

It seems that trampling the religious and free speech rights of Christians is almost a sport. A good recent example is  HGTV canceling Flip It Forward. The Benham twins who were to be the stars of the show dared to publicly express their faith and refused to bow down to the gods of this age.

There’s an agenda that’s out in America right now that demands silence, especially from men and women who profess Jesus Christ and hold to His standards,” said David Benham (read a full report at The Chr...
